The Band plays everything from classical pieces to traditional military
marching music. The 195th is present at all the huge events in Maine, such as
homecoming celebrations for returning troops, Military Balls, and change of
command ceremonies. A trumpeter often goes on paid funeral orders to
play taps at veteran graveside services. This is an honor that is afforded
to any veteran from WWI to Iraq veterans.
Soldiers who join the Maine Band are the only people that
must tryout (audition) to get into the guard and get accepted
into the Band. The audition involves being able to read classical
music and take instruction from a band leader. The band is considered
a non-deployable unit, meaning it's not expected to see the band on
the frontline in any war. They provide support in what's called
"morale and welfare" for the Maine soldiers. You do not need to have
your own instrument. The Maine Army National Guard will provide you
with your instrument. Come up to the next drill weekend, and hear us play!
You'll want to be a part of our team. Click below to find out our drill dates.
The Maine Army National Guard also has full-time opportunities
on hand.
These are uniformed soldiers "on orders" (meaning getting paid
every day to work for the Maine Army National Guard)to do
various jobs.
We have carpenters rebuilding our facilities, drivers hauling loads to training sites, as well as many other duties
to include working with children in our Team Building crew that
visit schools in Maine, and band members (Bugler or trumpet player)
playing at funerals for veterans. There are too many jobs to list.
It works by joining the Guard as a traditional soldier
(one weekend a month, two weeks a year) then volunteering or applying
for posted jobs that run on 30-day orders, 6-month orders,
or permanent positions. These are the soldiers that put on their
uniform every day, and head into Augusta, Lewiston, Bangor...
wherever their job takes them.
