The Engineers have too many jobs to easilly list here.
There are Combat Engineers, carpenters, masons,
electricians, plumbers, drivers, dozer operators,
graders, surveyors, medics, communications personnel,
officers, and construction managers as well as internal security.
This is one of the career fields in the Maine Army Guard where it is easy to see
your military training helping you get further in your civilian career.
What employer wouldn't want the experience of military training
helping ensure the success of their company? The employer knows that the Army sends you
away for schooling, and that you receive additional training every month during your regular drill.
The army also offers the experience and training to help build leaders, so it is fairly common that
the person strong enough to become an Army Engineer (Carpenter for example) is the one who
rises in the ranks in the civilian field and becomes the construction supervisor.
The Maine Army National Guard also has full-time engineers on hand.
These are uniformed soldiers "on orders" (meaning getting paid every
day to work for the Maine Army National Guard)to do various jobs.
We have carpenters rebuilding our facilities, drivers hauling loads to training sites, as well as many other duties
to include working with children in our Team Building crew that
visit schools in Maine. There are too many jobs to list. It works
by joining the Guard as a traditional soldier (one weekend a month,
two weeks a year) then volunteering or applying for posted jobs that
run on 30-day orders, 6-month orders, or permanent positions. These are the soldiers that
put on their uniform every day, and head into Augusta, Lewiston, Bangor... wherever their job takes them.
