The Maine Army National Guard employs male and female soldiers as medics in all units throughout the state. These jobs include everything from chopper medics in the Air Ambulance company to combat medics attached to the Mountain Company, The Engineer Group, and all other units. We also have a Medical Command, that employs all the medical professionals to run our State's National Guard.
Do you think you can treat a soldier or civilian for their injuries while flying in a Blackhawk Helicopter??? *
Or can you stick a soldier (inject an IV bag) ** who has become dehydrated during training?
Can you stop the bleeding and splint a compound fracture for a civilian injured in a fall? ***

Here's your chance to see if you really can!
Here are a few examples
*   There have been times when the 126th Air Ambulance company has been called to evac injured climbers from Mount Kathadin.
**   Medics have been called to help in blood drives as well as during the mobilization of units for over-seas missions. These medics are also on hand when a soldier drops during training on a hot day, and the Medic gets fluids back into the soldier, getting him back on his feet for more training!
***   The compound fracture mentioned above hapened in OCT 2005. A civilian, climbing near where the Mountany Company Soldiers were training, took a bad fall off a cliff and received a compound fracture. Our medic saved this man's lower leg. GOOD TRAINING!

Want to be a medic on a drill weekend with the Mountain Warfare Company when they go Climbing and Rapelling?
Want to be flying on a Blackhawk mission to Bethel Training Area, locate the yellow smoke grenade marking the LZ, then drop in to MedEvac some Maine soldiers "wounded" while training?
Well, you have to enlist first.

The Maine Army National Guard also has full-time soldiers on hand all over the state of Maine. These are uniformed soldiers "on orders" (meaning getting paid every day to work for the Maine Army National Guard)to do various jobs.
We have carpenters rebuilding our facilities, drivers hauling loads to training sites, as well as many other duties. These include working with children in our Team Building crew that visit schools in Maine and the Counter-drug flight crew. There are too many jobs to list. It works by joining the Guard as a traditional soldier (one weekend a month, two weeks a year) then volunteering or applying for posted jobs that run on 30-day orders, 6-month orders, or permanent positions. These are the soldiers that put on their uniform every day, and head into Augusta, Lewiston, Bangor... wherever their job takes them.
